Repairing the Remote Contolled Fuel Filler Door and Glass Hatch Releases
If your fuel filler door and glass hatch releases have stopped working chances are the problem resides in the rocker switches and not the solenoids or retracting latches. That's not to say that the latches wouldn't benefit from a shot of WD-40 every so often to ease operation but they're probably not the root cause of the problem. The rocker switches contain a miniature set of points and their contacts require light sanding. The process takes about an hour.
Disconnect the battery
Remove the choke knob and nut securing the choke control to the (lower-left side) plastic panel.
Unscrew the panel and also loosen the screws on the left side steering column cover.
Gently pull the panel away a few inches and disconnect the electrical connectors. This may be the hardest part of the operation since there isn't much room to play.
Take the panel to a well lit bench or table and remove the two rocker switches from the panel. Their fiber backs can be easily pried away with a small slot headed screwdriver. Make a mental note of how the parts fit together though before using fine sandpaper to clean the contacts.
Reinstall everything in the reverse order. Don't forget to reconnect the battery.
