Sounds like a vacuum leak, tps needs adjusting/replacing, or even a bad seal. I would say if it passes a compression test then it should be a fairly simple and fairly inexpensive repair.

BTW: The car should idle at 850 rpm.

What shoukld be the compression figures for an 88 Vert, n/a motor? I have finally rigged up a compression tester for the rotary motor, but I forgot the acceptable numbers for a compression test,
Thanks,
mikey

It should be close to 100 psi or more on each face of both rotors. It is important that all 3 bounces on the tester be fairly equal. 80 psi and you need to consider a rebuild. Test at operating temp.
