FB, FC, FD.... where's the FA?
Whatever happened to the FA? I'm not a JDM lore junkie, so my guess is it never got imported. Anyone know the story behind this?

Before FB, it was the SA. (1st generation, 12A). The "F" in FB symbolizes "Fuel Injected". All SA motors were "Carburated". In other words, when they came out with the new "Fuel Injected" Rotary (13B), they changed the S in SA, to F. Which made "FB".
I hope I explained it right, but there you go!

Thats what I was thinking.
I know there was an SA but I thought that was the rx3 and the F denoted their switch to a different body style and a new emphasis on "sports cars" since the rx3 was a sedan. I can't remember where I heard that. I'll research this and get back with the info

The SA was also in the 1st series of the 1st gen. Then they came out with the GSL-SE second series FB (13b fuel injected). Manufactured only in 1984-85.

'84/'85 are the fuel-injected option years, that is correct...Sssoooo why is my '83 carbureted RX-7 an FB...something doesn't sound right about that explanation...

Because the SA was from 79-80 and the FB was 81-85. I know when the denotations were changed, although about the whole reasoning of fuel injection I've never really heard that before.

I went to ebay to check on some vin numbers and sure enough the FB's as I thought they were are actually sa's... but I dont see why an fb would only be the gsl-se, maybe it is only 84-85 but ill look into this...
