Hey Guys just wondering if any of you have looked into maybe putting a RB20det plus the skyline 5 speed into a lil 1980 RX7 :) my 12a is nearly dead and i can pickup a RB20det realy cheap cheap then a 13b. As i've seen ppl putting a V8 in a series 1 i thought i might ask around to see if a RB20det would be hard to put in. all help will be awesome and please no one gimme crap :P I still love the rotary's just cant afford them at this stage.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond to this but there would be a few things involved in this.
You'd need a custom tranny bell, driveshaft, motor mounts. a new ecu, and pretty much the works, you might also be sacrificing your near 50/50 weight dist to do this.

The RB20det is heavier than the stock 12a, so you will notice that the front end will plow more.
It is doable, but far from cheaper than replaceing the 12a with anothere or even a 13b.

You need to look at mounnting the engine and tranny
size fo the bellhousings, will it fit the tranny tunnel?
wiring for the engine?
fuel system as you will need a bettere fuel pump to suply the fuel to the rb
ECU
clearance issues
ect ect

It would cost alot of time and money to get it to work right, but if you are motivated i say go for it. Something originaly is always good.
