well you should run the lowest octane, because if you run a higher, you have the chance of building carbon which you dont want. i think.
well anyways, if im wrong Shaggy save the day and post it up.

Shit...I'm not the expert here...Ausy or ROTOR will tell ya..;)
N/A rotary engines are designed to run on lower octane gasoline, generally the lower the better, saves you money, and some people see better perfomance running lower octane gas in their N/A. Higher octane gas may not completely combust, leaving residue or creating problems with carbon buildup.
The opposite is true for turbo cars, because of the higher pressure in a turbo engine, you want to run as high as possible octane, to help prevent predetenation, damaging your engine.
I dont make much sense, someone else could do a better job clearing this up, but the rule of thumb i go by is, turbo needs high octane while N/A uses low octane.

91 Thats what i've been running with this RX7. What do you think, is this to high or should I go with some 89 octane?

If its N/A stick with the lowest you have (87 or so) if its turbo use that same gas except when you know you'll be driving it hard use a higher octane.

So your saying i can run 87 all the time excpet for when im going to be running the car hard? Is running 94 all the time "bad" I thought with turbo's tyou were supposed to run higher octane ALL the time to prevent detonation.... Maybe im wrong. Straighten me out someone!

When I drive normally I rarely use the turbo at all. When you first get it I wouldn't bother running 87 because you're going to abuse the car... everyone does when they first buy it. But when you've calmed down some run the 87 and you'll be fine. Running 94 can cause carbon buildup.

Alright, so run....91? Or what? For the firt little while, i'll probably race a bit when i first get it, yes.
Alright thanks AusTex

ok this topic hasn't been posted on for a while but I live in CO and I guess since we have such high altitude, we have lower octane gas. Our lowest out here is 85...would that be ok for my n/a 86 7?

Is there any other way to drive a turbo other than hard?
